Meir Akunis

Meir Akunis is a partner in the firm’s Tax Group. Meir has extensive hands-on experience in both the civil and criminal aspects of tax. Meir provides advice with respect to a wide range of transactions ranging from mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings and fund formation to inter-company agreements, equity based plans and royalty bearing arrangements. Meir is involved both in structuring transactions for corporate clients and in analyzing the personal taxation implications for shareholders and employees.  Meir frequently handles tax pre-rulings from the Israeli tax authorities, on a wide range of tax matters, and leads litigation cases before various tribunals and courts. Meir's expertise covers, in addition to corporate tax matters, the areas of VAT, real estate taxes, tax withholding, double taxation treaties with other countries and taxation of non-profit organizations.

Prior to joining our firm, Meir headed the tax department of S. Horowitz & Co., and between 1995 and 1998 he worked in the Israeli Income Tax Commission both as a legal advisor on civil matters and as a criminal prosecutor.

Meir, who is a member of the Taxation Committee of the Israeli Bar Association, frequently lectures and writes articles in the field of taxation.
